Tree services

Removal, trimming, and stump grinding by climbers who protect your roof and lines.

Taking a big tree down next to a house is rigging work, not chainsaw work. Pieces come down on ropes in a controlled order so nothing lands on the roof, the fence, or the service line to the house. St. Louis storms leave behind a lot of split silver maples and pin oaks that were never pruned for that kind of wind.

The quote says which trees, what comes off, and whether the stump is going, and it does not move after you sign it. Climbers work the tree, the ground crew clears as we go, and the yard gets raked before we pull out. You deal with the same crew lead from the estimate to the last load.

The first question is usually whether the tree has to come out at all. Plenty of trees that look bad can be pruned and kept.

How the job runs

Tree services, step by step.

Quote

We look at the tree, the target zone, and the access, and quote the removal or pruning with cleanup included.

Prep

We protect the lawn, walks, and structures, set up ropes and rigging, and coordinate with the utility if lines are close.

Work

Climbers take the tree down in controlled pieces while the ground crew clears and chips.

Finish

The stump gets ground if it is in the scope, the wood is hauled, the yard is raked, and we point out anything else we noticed from up in the canopy.

Questions

Straight answers.

How do you know if a tree needs to come down?

We look for a lean that changed, cracks in the trunk, mushrooms at the base, dead limbs through the upper crown, and roots lifting on one side. A lean by itself is not a death sentence, and neither is one big dead limb. When it is a close call we will say so instead of selling you a removal.

Will removal damage my yard?

Some marking is normal, especially when a chipper or a lift has to cross the lawn. We lay plywood on the drive path in soft conditions and time the work for dry ground when we can. Ruts we make, we fix.

Do you grind the stump?

Yes, as a separate line item so you can decide. Standard grinding takes it six to eight inches below grade, which is enough for grass, and we go deeper if you want to plant or build there. Grinding leaves a pile of chips that we can haul off or leave for you to use as mulch.

Can you work near power lines?

Near them, yes, with proper clearance and rigging. The service line from the pole to your house we coordinate with the utility to have dropped for the day. The primary lines on the pole belong to the utility and only their crews touch those, and we will tell you who to call.

How do you price tree work?

Size, condition, and access. A 60-foot oak in an open back yard is a very different job from the same tree wedged between a house and a fence where every piece has to be roped and carried out. Storm-damaged trees under tension cost more because they are more dangerous to cut. You get a flat number before we start.
